Spend the past few days at home just catching up on videogames to play because I was clearing leave and my boss had also graciously given all of us an additional 2 days leave for the new year.
As someone who doesn't have much friends, or to be a bit more accurate, am too lazy to really initiate any meet up with friends, my itinerary when I have a long break from work is just to stay home and rot, so I did just that and got myself Final Fantasy 16, Outer Wilds and am currently replaying Cyberpunk 2077. It feels like I am 20 years old all over again, staying at home, doing absolutely fuck all whilst waiting for my enlistment, except back then, I was wasting my time playing Aion Online instead, so I was still socializing a little with my online friends back then.
Anyways, on to some New Years Resolution because why not.
1. Apply for a BTO.
I guess this isn't so much a resolution, but more of just something I have been looking forward to since I became aware that I can apply for a BTO once I hit 35. I'm not sure how easy it would be to actually successfully ballot for a 2 Room Flat on the first try because I have heard from friends, colleagues and customers who have applied many many times that they have also failed many many times, but then the reason they kept failing was also because they kept applying for those extremely sought after ones, which I probably won't be doing since those will cost a lot more.
2. Get in better shape and feeliing fit.
Getting in shape is probably on the resolution list of many many unfit individuals, and I belive majority of them don't end up actually getting in shape because hardly anyone ever follows through with their resolution.
Anyways, now that I have officially MR-ed, I am no longer required to take my yearly IPPT, which means I no longer have a national obligation to stay in shape. I am slowly starting to get skinny fat, the muffin top has slowly but surely started to form and it is a disconcerting sight.
Back when I was working as a Sales Designer, I had to move a lot, travel to multiple sites everyday via public transport and do a lot of walking, especially for houses that are very out of the way, sweating buckets because of the weather and constantly losing my appetite because of work related stress, all that contributed to my body's ability to maintain a relatively slim physique.
After that, I joined the furniture store, even though I didn't have to travel as much to various jobsites anymore and the stress level had significantly reduced, the store itself was relatively big, so I ended up walking around the store a lot, most of the time just out of sheer boredom from having nothing to do, that didn't burnt as much calories as my job as a Sales Designer, but I think I was able to achieve a lot of steps required daily to burn off the calories.
Now that I am working a desk bound job, I hardly ever move around a lot, so that has contributed to a decrease in my body's ability to burnt off calories, I have also been snacking a lot more in the office because our accountant will always tops up the pantry with snacks and candies, which I will proceed to snack on when I am alone in the office with nothing to do.
My weight has been on a steady rise ever since.
A few weeks ago, I finally gotten myself some dumbbells from Shopee and am following a weekly exercise routine on YouTube, it has been about 3 weeks since I started and I am hoping to stay consistent with it, the routine targets every muscle group, so there is chest day, back day, leg day, arms day and shoulders day along with 2 rest day, all can be done in my room with just the dumbbells I have gotten, which is a lot better than when I was just doing push ups on a daily basis and hoping that would be enough exercise for my whole body.
For now, leg day is my biggest killer, when I did that routine the first time round, I couldn't walk straight for days, and the challenging part isn't walking uphill or up a flight of stairs, ascending is fine, it's descending that is difficult, walking downhill or going down a flight of stairs, my muscles don't just ache, it starts wobbling like crazy because there was barely any strength left , but I am glad to announce that I no longer wobble after leg day, but it is still a bitch of an exercise to do.
I am glad I was able to find a proper exercise routine on YouTube, at least now I know I am targeting majority of my muscles instead of just relying on push ups.
3. New job?
This is a bit more complicated because I am still very much on the fence about it.
I am currently very comfortable with my current job and I am drawing a decent salary, it could be more, but the company isn't doing so well at the moment so that cannot be help.
That being said, I do wonder if the company had been performing consistently, would I have been offered a pay increment or would my boss just keep my salary at the rate it had been since I joined on day 1. I know my boss is very generous, so it's not a matter of him trying to be stingy and not giving me an increment, but more of him just being a blissfully unaware.
I have started looking for job opportunities with bigger firms on Jobstreet and they are offering a starting salary that is higher than what I am currently making. The only problem with me right now is my AutoCAD skills, or the lack of it, that is really holding me back from confidently applying for those position, and of course because those are larger firms, I am pretty sure they will also have a very very different work culture compared to my current one, I would probably loose a lot of freedom and might end up developing a disdain towards going to work again.
For now, my reason to leave my current company isn't strong enough to actually make me want to do it, so unless my company decides to terminate me like how they did with Yan, I am probably gonna just remain where I am. I guess something else that bugs me about my current situation is the lack of colleagues at work, I did enjoy the quietness it brought me at the beginning, but then it is starting to feel a bit lonely in the office, and I am now missing the plethora of colleagues that I used to have back at my previous workplaces. Not all of them were pleasant, but there were at least enough pleasant ones to make the working experience there a bit more enjoyable.
4. Stop spending unnecessarily.
I am talking specifically about my stupid PopMart addiction. I think I have spend close to $1000 on PopMart even since I got into it in August.
$1000 for figurines and plushies is very very excessive, now they are literally just sitting on my shelve, serving zero purpose other than looking pretty, I am however glad to say that I am no longer tuning in to the Livestream as diligently anymore, the viewers for the Livestream has also started to drop, so I think the hype is starting to die down. I may however still continue getting the limited edition Labubus when PopMart releases them, but for the other figurines, they are kinda meh to me now. I will now only get what I like and not get them out of FOMO.
Anyways.
Next on my agenda is my Taiwan trip that is happening on Monday, it's time to go back to Taipei again! I honestly would be very happy for this Taipei trip to become a yearly routine for me.
We shall see if 4 days is the perfect number of days to spend there! A few people I know are currently there and the weather is in the 10 to 15 degree range, doesn't sound too cold so hopefully a hoody and coat will suffice, otherwise I will have to get some extra layers from Uniqlo there. I do hope this trip will also give me the mental reset I need from work, even though I have been off from work for the past 5 days, it doesn't feel the same unless I am actually out of the country.
