March Updates

Life has really been revolving around work and gym recently, and I have been using ChatGPT a lot to rant about random stuff lately, thus the lack of regular postings.

But here is an update on my relatively boring month of March.

14th March

Had a meet up with Yan to just catch up on life and ever since I came out to her back in December when I pretty much told her I had gone to Korea with someone I met on Hinge, she had been wanting to just meet up with me without her husband around because I hadn't come out to him.

It was a nice session, since she is naturally a chatty person, the conversation kept flowing and we stayed in the cafe for abour 3 hours or so just catching up about life and work.

15th March

My 36th Birthday. I'm so fucking old.

Went for a meal with someone I had matched with on Hinge.

I asked him where he wanted to go and he told me he had been eyeing this place called Wildseed Cafe for a while now, so that's where we went.

The only downside to actually getting to the cafe is that it is better to actually have a car because it is at Alkaff Mansion, which is quite a walk away from the bus stop at the main road.

Thankfully, the weather was quite cooling that day, so I didn't end up reaching the cafe just soaked in sweat, he on the otherhand, drove, so it was no problem for him.

I ended up reaching first because he had a gym class he was teaching beforehand.

He was about 10 minutes late and as with all first meet ups, it was definitely a bit awkward at the start, I really don't know how I am able to keep going on all this type of meet ups at a shy introvert because it is tough, especially when I notice that they are not the naturally chatty type.

The good thing is because he is currently renovating his house, I was able to use my experience as an Interior Designer to offer him some advise and our conversation started to flow a bit better.

We got a salad to share, this was pretty good.

I got myself a Breakfast Platter.

He then drove us over to Tan Boon Liat to do some furniture shopping for his new place and it was an eye opening experience for me, he felt bad that I had to follow him around, but I was actually also really interested to explore the different shops, just because I have always recommended customers to go there to look for furnture, but have never actually been to that place to look at the different shops myself.

We probably explored the area for 2- 3 hours before heading to Chinatown for dessert, I think I was feeling a bit tired from the Tan Boon Liat visit, so no pictures of what we had, but he paid for it as thanks for spending time with him to look at the furniture and also offering advise.

Called it a day and told him I wanted to go back home for dinner because my Nephew was gonna come visit.

That was how I spend my birthday, with someone who was not aware it was my birthday!

16th March

Went for my Fitstop class in the morning and midway through the session, as I was doing rows, the coach came up to me and asked me...

"It's your birthday right?"

.... smiled after I told him it was already over and then walked away.

I knew something was going to happen and as predicted, when the class ended, he invited me to the front of the class and had me perform 36 burpees! This was after everyone, including myself, was already exhausted from the 40 minute class.

One of my gym friend decided to join me but he only lasted about 10 sets before he called it quits, so I had to do the remaining sets on my own while everyone was looking, pretty much collapsed on the ground when I was finally done. The coach was taking a video of me performing the burpees, but it was never posted on their Instagram, thank god for that because I can only imagine how horrible I must have looked.

22nd March

Meet up with Felix

I have known Felix for over a year now and everytime we met up, which happens maybe once every half a year, it was always at his place for a meal, so this is the first time we are actually meeting outside for a meal.

I suggested Tiong Bahru, he was agreeable to it, but then on that day, I realized it was not such a great idea because it was actually really fucking hot and Tiong Bahru had a lot of walking that needed to be done.

That being said, it was a nice place to visit.

We both shared a pizza at Forketta for lunch, I can't remember if we got any sides, but the total bill came to almost $60, it was good pizza, the restaurant was also relatively empty when we arrived so thankfully, we were able to get seated immediately.

Once the Pizza was consumed, we moved on to this cafe called Little Glass for Matcha and Hojicha, it was a nice quaint little spot.

Then moved on to Pralet for the viral Burnt Butter donut, this donut was nothing special at first because the donut itself was really light, like eating bread, so it didn't have the richness I was originally expecting a donut to have,  but then the more I had it, the more I actually started to appreciate it and it grew on me really quickly.

I get the hype.

We also got Smoothies as well, I got the blue one becuse it reminded me of the one from Erewhon, which I have been seeing a lot on Social Media, which I am sure was an inspiration for this.

It was really tart, I could really taste the yoghurt in it, so not really a huge fan, Felix got the Passionfruit one, which was nicer because it wasn't very heavy with Yoghurt, but I have to say, mine looks nicer visually.

Last stop was at Plain Vanilla for some cakes to go. I would always get the Strawberry White Chocolate cupcake whenever I visit Plain Vanilla to get cupcakes, so this time it was no exception.

Felix then called a Grab and we headed back to his place for the main event, which was to see his brand new kittens that he had gotten to keep him company!

They were adorable, but he had to reorganize his entire home to make sure his cats had place to play around without damaging any of his stuff, so it was honestly in a bit of disarray, plus one of them just got an operation, so he really needed to make sure she wouldn't go crazy with the acrobatics.

The kittens are really a nice addition to his place because he lives alone, it's so important to have company otherwise it just becomes really lonely. I am now seriosuly considering getting a kitten when I do get my own place in the future.

Speaking of which, I DID NOT get a ballot number ONCE AGAIN for my BTO application, third time in a row, fucking awesome, I know I told myself if I don't get it it was gong to be fine because the location isn't exactly ideal, but to fail even getting a number 3 times in a row is such a buzzkill.

Felix texted me to ask me about my results, and then told me he had a friend who also applied for the same place and actually got a number on his first try. What the actual fuck, I know it is luck based, but damn this sucks, I don't think I will be getting my own place to live in before 40 if this streak of bad luck continues! Maybe for the upcoming ballot, I will just try the shittiest location and see how shit my luck can really get.

I will probably keep trying till I hit 40, if I don't get a BTO before 40, then I really have no choice but to consider a resale, by then, I think I will also be able to save up enough to do a more extensive renovation.

28th March

Went for Saturday gym class, it was Games Day, so everyone had a friendly competition in teams of 4 with one another, since I had booked this session with my friend, I didn't have to worry about grouping up with random members.

I ended up having a lot of fun.

My friend was suppose to go for another class afterwards, but because this session lasted longer than she had anticipated, she ended up cancelling the next class and joined me for breakfast instead.

So we went to the neaby cafe for coffee and sarnies, I decided to treat her to this meal and even got her doggo a cup of puppycino because the last time I visted her place, she gave me a many many shots of alcohol.

29th March

Went for a second meet up with the guy I had matched on Hinge, it didn't start off well because Google maps gave me wrong directions to the restuarant that he had recommended we visit called NangLen.

I was send to an empty plot of land beside Outram MRT Station, texted him and told him about it, he told me we can meet at Chagee in Chinatown, so that's where I headed, got myself a cup of Bubble Tea when I was finally there after a 5 minute walk, soaking in sweat.

We headed to the restaurant together afterwards once we found the actual location.

Decided to get their Pork Basil Fried Rice

And Signature Tom Yum Mami Noodle

Nothing more, nothing less, 2 dishes to share and it was just nice. The Fried Rice was a bit wet, but the Tom Yum noodle was really tasty. We brought our Chagee over and was told we couldn't drink it in the restaurant, so we got water instead and then only chugged our Chagee once we were done with the meal.

Had a cup of Ice Cream afterwards, shared a cup because sharing is caring, and it's cheaper to have a double scoop than 2 single scoop, so the choice to share was also for economical reasons. It was a good cup of Ice Cream.

After Ice Cream, he told me if it was okay if we headed to a lighting shop where he got us lights for his new place, I was agreeable and kinda excited to see the shop, thinking I could maybe get a new supplier to introduce customers to, sadly the lights aren't all that impressive. The lady boss knows my Hinge Match, so she was also introducing her recommendations to him about which lights would fit his place best, but I really didn't agree with a lot of her suggestions and everytime my Hinge Match looks at me to guage how I felt about it, I just gave him a blank look because I also didn't want to be too honest and potentially insult the lady boss.

Eventually I did express which lights I thought were better, and he ended up going with my suggestions instead. We were there for probably an hour.

Since he actually drove, we decided to pay New Bahru a visit afterwards. I was a bit conflicted whether I wanted to go or not because it was already 4.30pm by then and I was more interested to go home and play with my nephew, but alas, I told him we could just drop by and take a look, so we did.

New Bahru was quite boring, we walked and explored the different levels and just felt really underwhelmed, a part of my boredom may come from the fact that I really wanted to call it a day and go home as well.

We got drinks from Cold Storage, and then he send me to the nearest MRT Station. Managed to get home by 6.30pm and was able to play with my Nephew, so that was great!

That's the main bulk of activities that happened in March, work has been starting to pile up recently, so April is likely going to be a pretty busy month, and I am going to Taipei at the end of April, which should be exciting, but the thought of all this projects that I have to do before the trip and the one week that I won't be able to work on them, and then having to get back to them again after the trip, it's really fucking me up.

Good luck to me! I can already foresee myself losing some of the projects because my boss kept assigning new ones to me when I told him I was already very very very busy.

Sometimes I have to imagine myself working for another boss and actually remind myself to be grateful that my boss has a pretty good temper, because the way I have been talking to him during the weekly company meetings have been horrible!
